Resume to reflect a career change
When my client wanted to move from sales and marketing to HR roles, he was unsure of how to approach a new resume. His goal was to demonstrate his skills and experience without sounding either too inexperienced or overqualified for the roles he wishes to apply for.
During our phone conversation, I worked with the client to explore the transferable skills he can offer employers. Highly organised, with experience in managing staff and supporting them in achieving their objectives, he possessed multiple skills that would allow him to adapt to the new role. Focusing also on his willingness to learn, and dedication to ongoing professional development allowed me to demonstrate that, even if he did not possess HR experience, he would be willing and able to learn any skills and processes required.
Using the job advertisement as a guide, I included elements of the role description and duties that were appropriate to the client’s experiences and skills, clearly showcasing the ways in which the client’s prior knowledge would allow him to not only adapt to new duties but flourish within HR roles.
Given his extensive leadership and mentorship experience, I am confident that my client has the necessary skills to transition into this new career focus and look forward to hearing from him about his efforts.
