Bomber or Dump Truck Operator Case Study by Rachael L.

The client, an experienced Storeperson in the mining sector, came to Select Resumes for a resume update and cover letter with the goal of advancing to a Bomber or Dump Truck Operator apprenticeship.

Although she lacked hands-on experience operating heavy underground mining machinery, she had significant exposure to underground and blasting operations and possessed a demonstrated aptitude for continuous professional development and learning. As a result, I spent time with the client to draw out her key achievements and recognised skills, so we could create a list of professional characteristics to catch her future supervisor’s eye. Some of the skills we focused on included:

  • Sharp eye for detail with recognised organisational skills
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound judgement with a strong commitment to safety
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Initiative

Of course, these skills were elaborated on using the STAR model, focussing on Situations, Actions, Tasks, and Results to clearly demonstrate her experience. For example, in her current role, she is instrumental in procuring supplies for day-to-day and overarching operational success and has received consistent feedback from supervisors regarding her hard work ethic, resulting in increased responsibility and proving her ability to take on new challenges.

After further drawing out her professional characteristics and transferable core skills and qualities, it became apparent this client would be highly capable of taking on an apprenticeship as a Bomber or Dump Truck Driver, and now she has a resume and cover letter to prove it.
